The Effect of Captopril and Losartan on Tacrolimus-Induced Testicular Toxicity in Rats

Background: Tacrolimus is an immunosuppressive drug broadly used to avoid rejection of tissue transplantation. Some studies suggest that tacrolimus has destructive effects on the male reproductive system due activation renin-angiotensin (RAS) and inflammation. Objectives: The present study aimed at determining toxic testis evaluating blocking captopril losartan angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) angiotensin receptors, respectively, in rats. Methods: experimental was conducted 36 adult Wistar rats (weighing 200 ± 20 g) randomly divided into six groups treated based design for 30 days. At end intervention, were anesthetized their blood samples obtained measure serum levels testosterone ACE2 enzyme. Also, both testes removed histopathological examinations after scarifying. Results: decreased significantly. lower with a combination or compared control group while level significantly increased receiving captopril. epithelial thickness seminiferous tubules number primary spermatocytes only received losartan, along tacrolimus. Conclusions: According findings, administration tacrolimus, can decrease its testicular toxicity. Captopril act through RAS but cannot improve level; therefore, recovery testicle might not be attributed approach anti-inflammatory effect.
